Miles the Puppet Performer

Hey folks! I waited for a few weeks to catch Miles' performance in the street. He is not just any puppet, but an accomplished singer. I saw Miles from the bus about five weeks ago, didn't have time to photograph him. This time I got off the bus and spent some time with him and his stage partner. I took this portrait with the lens set at 85mm, shutter speed at 1/10 sec., at f/2.8 and ISO of 400. I used my Fujifilm X10. I love photographing street performers. They make great subjects. Miles had a nice smile and was very friendly.

Scaffolded Monument

Hey, photogs! It's been a while, since I posted last. I'm posting this shot of the Nation's Capital Washington Monument that is under repair due to damage from the 2011 earthquake. It looks really cool to me, like an erector set kit I used to build when I was a kid. A Fujifilm X10 digital camera was used to capture this metal clad monument. The ISO was 100, 1/640 sec. F / 4.0. The camera was set at a focal length of 28mm.

Memorial Day Bike

Hey photogs! The motorcycle symbolizes the freedom of this great country. I photograph this American icon all the time. The bike you see here caught my attention. I had my camera ready. The play of the red motorcycle in contrast with the black car made for an eye catching subject. This is one of the many thousands of bikes that roll through the Nation's Capital every Memorial Day.

Movement in Pink

Hello everyone. I hope you guys are photographing your favorite flowers this spring season. They make great greeting cards. Experiment with low ISO to get shallow depth of field and in this example, some of the flowers are blurred. Set your camera to the macro setting to help you in creating this effect. The camera sometimes sees what the eye doesn't. Life is not static. Even a flower has movement, caused by a slight breeze. Observing nature is fascinating. Until next time, happy shooting!

Running Boy

Hey phototogs! On my way to see the cherry blossoms I saw this boy running. My camera was in hand, and I caught him in action. The Washington Monument provided a great background. The film camera used is a Leica M6 with 35mm F/2.5 lens. The film is Kodak Ektar 100. A film with good contrast and saturation. Film is still alive, it's got soul!

Sidewalk Silhouette

Hello fellow photographers. Welcome to spring. I hope you all took lots of photos over the winter. The daylight hours are now increasing. I created this image after work, while walking toward the bus stop. I love silhouettes, and the low setting sun allowed this visual theme. The art of photography is looking for moments that are happening. The trick is to have your camera and to seize the moment before it fades away. My next photo will explore HDR (High Dynamic Range).
